The L.A.T.E. Ride: Light Up the Night

Join Friends of the Parks and other bicyclists after dark to:

* Ride past some of Chicago's most well-known parks

* Cycle past downtown skyscrapers lit in the dark

* Hear shouts of "Opaah!" in Greek Town

* Check out the South Loop, Chinatown and other distinctive neighborhoods of the city

* Ride the beautiful lakefront path under the stars

* See the sunrise over Lake Michigan

"Light Up the Night with Friends of the Parks"! Participants are encouraged

to have fun with nightglow garb and 'light-up' trimmings. Awards with be given

for the most creatively decorated bike and bike helmet at the pre-ride party

that starts at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27.

A wildly popular annual event, The L.A.T.E Ride is presented by Friends of the Parks

(FOTP), an acclaimed non-profit park advocacy organization founded in 1975 and

dedicated to preserving, protecting and improving Chicago area parks and forest preserves.

Participation in The L.A.T.E. Ride helps Friends of the Parks make parks cleaner,

safer and helps provide park programs for all Chicagoans to enjoy. The 2015 L.A.T.E.

Ride will fund FOTP's education, stewardship and public space planning programs.

Friends of the Parks recruits over 5,000 volunteers annually who help on Earth

Day and other events to clean, plant and improve Chicago's parks and preserves;

teaches environmental education to 800 elementary and 125 high school students;

awards $10,000 in seed grants to park advisory councils; and hosts free lectures,

tours, seminars and conferences for citizens and park advocates in Chicago.

Ride Features!

• Rider "Waves": The first rider "wave" (aka VIP Wave) will remain the same. After

that, the first 1,000 individuals who register online will automatically be placed in

second wave (aka the Blue Wave). All remaining waves will be assigned based on the date you register.

• Breakfast: When you register, choose the $10 full breakfast option to enjoy the

post-ride breakfast in Grant Park. (NOTE: All VIP registrants receive a complimentary breakfast.)

• Membership: All VIP registrants receive complimentary Friends of the Parks membership (a $35 value).

• Pit Stop/Rest Area: This year, the pit stop will be at Humboldt Park. It will allow

riders to spread out, enjoy snacks and listen to some music in this iconic park before finishing

the rest of the ride.

• ... And don't forget to GLOW! : This year's theme is "Light Up The Night." All

pre-registrants glow necklace and everyone will be able to compete for “Best Lit Bike and Helmet”!

New Route!

In addition to the usual 25 mile route, this year we will also be adding a 15 mile route!


• VIP Registration $75 until May 31 at midnight

• $50 – Early Bird until April 17 at midnight

• $60 – Regular until May 31 at midnight

• $70 – Late until June 20 at midnight

• $70 – Night-of registration (complimentary t-shirt only as supplies last)

• $25 – Riding volunteer rate

• $15 – Course Marshal/On-Bike Medic (EMT or similar certification) volunteer rate

Early Bird ($50 until April 17): First 1,000 will be in the first wave behind VIP,

t-shirt, Bib number, Glow necklace, Map, Sponsor Coupons

Regular ($60 until May 31): t-shirt, Bib number, Glow necklace, Map, Sponsor Coupons

Late ($70 until June 20): Bib number, Glow necklace, Map, Sponsor Coupons (t-shirt while supplies last)

Rider Volunteer ($25): t-shirt, Bib number, Glow stick, Map, Sponsor Coupons; This

category is for volunteers who sign up for one work day. Tasks include goodie bag stuffing,

package pickup, night-of volunteer.

Course Marshal/On-Bike Medic Volunteer ($15): t-shirt, Bib number, Glow stick, Map,

Sponsor Coupons; This category is for volunteers who sign up as a course marshal or on-bike

medic for the night of the event.
