Ride is one of Chicago's biggest charity events. Proceeds from The L.A.T.E. Ride, presented by Sports Authority, benefit Friends of the Parks. Our name says it all: Friends of the Parks. Since 1975, we have served as Chicago's strongest independent advocate for improved parks and park programs. We host Earth Day cleanups, encourage groups to join Adopt-a-Park program, and raise funds to help build new parks. Parks benefit children and citizens in so many ways. Parks provide young people with safe and healthy places to play, contribute to public health and build stronger communities. We never outgrow our need for green space and fun, for nature and beauty. Like you, we want to give children access to public parks and to vibrant programs that serve and inspire them. Our mission is to preserve, protect, improve and promote the use of Chicago parks, forest preserves and recreational areas for the benefit of all neighborhoods and citizens. Enjoying parks and our lakefront is a huge part of Chicago's appeal. What most people don't realize is that our city parks and open spaces play a practical role in sustaining the health and well being of Chicago. Air, water, and noise pollution can all be controlled in part by parks and open spaces. Help us to advocate maintaining a healthy, sustainable environment.
