The L.A.T.E. Ride 1998, presented by WGN-TV Children's Charities, was a big success! For the first time, we held our rest stop in the parking lot of WGN-TV studios near Addison and Western. Although we've still never been rained out, a 20-minute torrential downpour started about 5:15 a.m., drenching those still on the route (breakfast went on anyway!). For a second year in a row, we offered illumiNITE T-shirts. For the first time, we hosted a post-ride volunteer thank-you party on The Cap Streeter, a boat cruising Lake Michigan. In an annual poll, readers of Windy City Sports magazine voted The L.A.T.E. Ride as Best Bike Ride, Best T-shirt, and Best Goody Bag.
