T-Shirt Design Gallery
2001 - A Midsummer Night's Cycle
Ride Date: July 15, 2001
T-shirt designer: Yvette Diaz DeLeon
A student at Columbia College, Yvette Diaz DeLeon won the 2001 design contest.
We like how she incorporated well-known Chicago landmarks into her design,
including the Sears Tower, the "L" train, Picasso's sculpture and, of course
trees, stars and the moon.
All registered participants received a free L.A.T.E. Ride t-shirt. We encouraged
everyone to wear their t-shirt during the ride and, later, tell friends they
stayed up ALL NIGHT to ride 25 miles through Chicago's north side neighborhoods
and along the city's spectacular lakefront path!
In 2001, the group Tumbleweed performed live at Buckingham Fountain before the
ride. At 12:45 a.m., we hosted our annual Best Lit Bike and Best Decorated Helmet
contests. Participants enjoyed Ben & Jerry's ice cream and Home Run Inn Pizza
before the ride, too. Starting at 1:30 a.m. under a beautiful crescent moon, we
released riders in five waves for Chicago's only nocturnal bicycle ride.
Participants enjoyed a ton of snacks at two rest stops and ate breakfast back at
the fountain while viewing a beautiful sunrise.
